Cavotec concludes successful inter airport Europe

Our Airports team is concluding another successful inter airport Europe which saw the launch of our new Series 2500+ frequency converter, as well as fruitful meetings with customers, suppliers and the media.

This was the 20th year of the bi-annual show, which this year attracted some 600 exhibitors from more than 40 countries. During the show, which got underway on Tuesday and wraps up today, we demonstrated our innovative in-ground technologies, the highlight of which was the launch of our Series 2500+ converter on Wednesday.

The 2500+, which is designed for use with a 400Hz modular coiler, (PowerPack I-connect), guarantees 500% overload at the gate, compared to just 400% common in existing systems. The extra capacity ensures aircraft services are maintained at the gate, and is sufficient to meet the growing capacity demands of larger aircraft in the years ahead.

The 2500+ can be installed horizontally on passenger bridges, or vertically on the apron. In both cases, the unit is virtually identical, thereby lowering operating costs for customers. It is also compatible with European and North American power requirements, and has been designed to withstand the high ambient temperatures of the Middle East.

Alongside the launch of the Series 2500+, we also released a new software package, Cavotec Skyway, which allows operators to remotely access the unit via a PC, tablet or smartphone.

Our thanks to the organisers for another highly worthwhile and well-run event. No doubt we’ll be back in Munich in 2017 for the next inter airport Europe.

Deft Dortmund cuts turn-arounds with Cavotec

A look at how our advanced tunnel systems are helping ensure fast, efficient aircraft servicing at Dortmund Airport in Germany.

These systems are an excellent example of our how our Airports technologies – and especially our E3 Gate concept – are improving passenger experience and operational efficiency at airports worldwide.

E3 stands for ergonomics, economics and the environment; and it’s a concept we’ve applied to, and adapted from, the ports sector.

You can learn more about how the E3 Gate is revolutionising aircraft servicing here. You can also learn more about the launch of the fuelling element of the E3 Gate here.

Our thanks to Dortmund Airport for making this film possible. Let us know what you think about this film by sending us a message on our Facebook page or Twitter feed.

Dubai Airport tops list for A380 flights: report

Dubai International Airport has been named as the world’s leading hub in terms of A380 flights by airports business intelligence news provider the Moodie Report.com

According to the report, Dubai handled 7,259 A380 flights to 28 destinations in 2012. The vast majority of these flights were operated by Emirates, the world´s biggest operator of the super-jumbo aircraft.

Singapore Changi was second, with 6,653 A380 flights, and London Heathrow was third with 3,697. Frankfurt, Sydney, Paris, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, New York and Melbourne were also in the top 10.

Dubai was also recently named as the world´s second busiest airport in terms of international passenger traffic.

Aircraft ground support equipment

Cavotec´s innovative ground support equipment supplies A380 aircraft at Dubai´s dedicated Emirates Concourse A with essential services such as cool air and electrical power.

As previously announced, we are also currently supplying our ground support equipment for the new Emirates A380 Engineering Centre at the airport. For this project, we are installing pop-up pit systems and pre-conditioned air units for four new A380 maintenance hangars.

Aviation Refuelling solutions

Cavotec´s aviation systems enable airports to reduce the use of diesel-driven equipment, increasing operational efficiency and resulting in cleaner air and less cluttered tarmac around aircraft.

Our ground support systems are playing their part in Dubai Airport’s newly-opened flagship terminal: the world’s first dedicated to the Airbus A380 superjumbo.

Dubai International Airport’s Concourse A, which opened earlier this month, gives Emirates — one of the fastest-growing airlines — an additional capacity of 15 million passengers a year.

Cavotec equipment at Concourse A includes Pop-Up Pits that supply air and electrical power to aircraft. You can see pictures of these systems on our Facebook page.

Cavotec has worked with major airports in the region for many years, and is currently working on projects at several other hub airports. In December we completed the commissioning of a major application at Bahrain International Airport.

Cavotec Germany unveils new GSE production facility

Last week, Cavotec Germany hosted an open day at its new, state-of-the-art production facility and office space just outside Frankfurt.

Spick and span on the factory floor

The Dietzenbach-based premises, just 20km from Frankfurt Airport, are the new home for Cavotec Fladung and Cavotec Germany. Cavotec Fladung designs and manufactures advanced in-ground aircraft support equipment used at airports all over the world.

The new production facility optimises production processes, with clearly defined areas for specific activities and gantry systems to ensure the safe and efficient transfer of products around the factory floor. The new site also leaves room for the company to continue to grow in the years ahead.

Precision at work: a Cavotec engineer works on an electrical connector

Cavotec Germany Managing Director, Thomas Dreyer; and Cavotec CEO, Ottonel Popesco spoke at the event, before attendees were taken on guided tours around the site. Guests included customers, suppliers and Cavotec staff.

The event, held every two years, also includes product demonstrations and presentations on Cavotec technologies. The following day, employees’ families were invited to the site to see where their families work. Although on this day, the emphasis was rather more on the bouncy castle than pre-conditioned air systems!

This year’s occasion was well-received by all those present, and we look forward to holding a similar event again in 2014.

Dubai Airport flying high

We are delighted to hear that one of our major Airports customers in the Middle East, Dubai International Airport, has reported record passenger numbers for the first six months of this year.

Cavotec has supplied advanced in-ground aircraft servicing systems to Dubai International Airport for many years.

According to figures published by Dubai International, the airport welcomed some 27.9 million passengers between January and June this year – an increase of 13.7 per cent on the same period last year and the busiest six-month period in the airport’s history.

“We are on track to meet the annual projected traffic of 56.5 million passengers, which will bring us very close to Dubai International’s operational capacity of 60 million passengers per annum,” Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said in a statement.

Cavotec has worked closely with its partners and the airport for many years developing innovative in-ground aircraft servicing systems.

The most recent project on which Cavotec and its partners have worked on at Dubai International is the design, supply and installation of pre-conditioned air (PCAir System) and 400Hz electrical power Pop-Up pit systems for the Airport’s new Concourse 3. This new terminal is due to enter service during the first quarter of 2013 and, according to Griffiths, will increase the airport’s capacity to 75 million.
