Cavotec systems at Dubai’s dedicated A380 terminal

Our ground support systems are playing their part in Dubai Airport’s newly-opened flagship terminal: the world’s first dedicated to the Airbus A380 superjumbo.

Dubai International Airport’s Concourse A, which opened earlier this month, gives Emirates — one of the fastest-growing airlines — an additional capacity of 15 million passengers a year.

Cavotec equipment at Concourse A includes Pop-Up Pits that supply air and electrical power to aircraft. You can see pictures of these systems on our Facebook page.

Cavotec has worked with major airports in the region for many years, and is currently working on projects at several other hub airports. In December we completed the commissioning of a major application at Bahrain International Airport.

“The number of containers handled across our portfolio of global ports has increased again, with 28.2 million containers handled in the first six months of the year,” said DP World Chief Executive Mohammed Sharaf in a statement.

The group’s ports, numbering 60 all around the world, handled more than 28 million TEUs to June. The Asia Pacific and Indian subcontinent showed the strongest performance in container movements.

We are delighted to see this encouraging news, especially coming as it does so soon after we heard that another Cavotec customer, Dubai International Airport, reported a record number of passenger numbers in the six months to June.

Cavotec supplies electrical power and spreader reels, Panzerbelt cable protection systems and other innovative technologies to DP World ports. In a recent example, Cavotec  received orders for power and spreader reels for container cranes that will be used at the Rotterdam World Gateway.

Cavotec’s Ports & Maritime unit manufactures a diverse range of advanced technologies that help ports around the world to operate safely, efficiently and sustainably.
