Cavotec continues to build its role as key supplier to Swedish industry

Cavotec continues to build its position as an important supplier of niche technologies to major Swedish industrial companies with several projects involving its radio remote control (RRC) systems in recent months.

“Cavotec has a long association with Swedish industrial groups; indeed, the Group was established in Sweden in the 1970s. These latest projects underscore our position as a trusted partner for OEMs such as ABB in Sweden and further afield,” says Cavotec Sweden Managing Director, Erik Chilò.

In one of the most recent orders for the Group in Sweden, Cavotec has supplied an advanced MC-3-5 RRC terminal to Swedish automation specialist Kelmo. The company is carrying out upgrading work on high voltage cable plant in Karlskrona, southern Sweden, on behalf of ABB.

ABB has also purchased a number of Cavotec Micro-control systems that will be used to control a cable production application. Factories in Karlskrona and in Luleå, in the north of the country, use Cavotec systems to control cable storage facilities and operate the critical extruder process when manufacturing cables.

Operators use the MC-3-5 units to control large machines that coil underwater sea cable into storage facilities before they are loaded on to ships or barges. ABB also uses a large number of Cavotec electrical plugs and cable reels for applications in ports and terminals, and in metallurgy industry.

Cavotec is also currently supporting the SEK 17-billion Stockholm City Line project in the Swedish capital. Stockholm City Line is a major infrastructure programme involving the construction of a six kilometre-long train line under the city. Cavotec has supplied cable management systems, RRCs and electrical connectors to leading contractors working on the project such as Bilfinger Berger, NCC, Zublin and PEAB. You can see images of these systems on our Facebook page here.

Cavotec has two dedicated operations in Sweden, Cavotec Connectors in Staffanstorp, southern Sweden, and Cavotec Sweden, just north of Stockholm.

Cavotec’s radio remote control experts at ONS 2012

Cavotec’s radio remote control (RRC) experts – Cavotec Micro-control – recently took part in a highly successful ONS2012, one of the offshore energy industry’s largest exhibitions. Held in Stravanger, Norway, between August 28 and 30, the event attracted some 50,000 attendees.

The Cavotec team (pictured above) were on hand to show visitors how our innovative technologies are helping the industry to operate more safely, more cleanly and more efficiently. Key product areas included RRCs, joysticks, drag chains, connectors and motorised cable reels, primarily for EX applications.

Our stand – as the entire event – was busy, with even Norway’s Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Ola Borten Moe, dropping in to try his hand at operating an excavator using one of our advanced RRC video link systems.

We’ve posted some more photos from ONS on our Facebook.

Following the success of ONS in recent years, the event will now be held annually, rather than bi-annually as previously: we’re already looking forward to ONS2013!

Cavotec will be exhibiting at this year’s TOC Europe, held in Antwerp, Belgium, at Stand G18. Billed as the “global forum for ports, terminal operators, shipping lines, 3PLs and BCOs where you can meet the people who own, move and handle large volumes of containers,” this year’s event runs between June 12 and June 14.

As well as meeting friends and colleagues, we will be demonstrating how our customers are improving productivity and sustainability with Cavotec’s innovative technologies such as MoorMaster™ automated mooring and shore power systems, Panzerbelt cable protection systems, crane controllers, power chains and connectors, radio remote controls, motorised and spring driven cable reels and steel chains.

The enquiry level throughout the four-day show was encouraging, with several enquiries for core Cavotec products, and our local agency lines.

Interest was especially strong in motorised cable reels, spring-driven cable reels, connectors, radio remote controls, Brevetti cable chains, Gantrex rail clips and pads, Vahle conductor bars, Brieda seats and consoles, and Gessmann joysticks.

Many thanks to the staff we had on the stand including, Sures Sinnadurai, Jeff Humphreys, Steve Conrades, Mark Payne, and particularly the guys who travelled so far: Jan Buttle-Ulvin (Cavotec Micro-control Singapore) and Bruno Pierobon from Gantrex Belgium.

Also, a special thanks to Tony Iseppi who arranged the exhibition and Julia Weinhart for organising the banners for our stand.

Cavotec UK at SPE Offshore Europe 2011

Cavotec UK will be exhibiting our offshore systems at SPE Offshore Europe 2011 – Oil & Gas Conference & Exhibition held at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre from 6th-8th September 2011.

Visitors and exhibitors are welcome to visit Cavotec UK at stand 5D121 (Hall 5) and talk to us directly about the latest in radio remote controls, crane seats and cabins, Brevetti chains, connectors, EX equipment, cables and reelingsystems.

The theme this year is “Securing Safe, Smart, Sustainable Supply” and is expected to once again attract a global audience of engineers, technical specialists, industry leaders and experts.

The largest upstream oil and gas event outside North America consists of exhibitor stands, conferences, technical and plenary panel sessions, breakfast and lunch events and an intriguing Deep Water Zone.

In 2009, over 30,000 visitors from 94 countries attended the event.
