Port of Salalah, Oman

Port of Salalah, Oman

Our engineers have successfully installed 12 MoorMaster™units at the Omani Port of Salalah ahead of the Khareef monsoon season.

With commissioning scheduled for completion this week, initial trial moorings are planned for early June.  According to Paddy Rosenwald, Managing Director, Cavotec Specimas, one of the units has however already performed a smooth mooring operation – a great achievement!

NZ Parliament acknowledges Cavotec success

We are thrilled to report that the New Zealand Parliament has commended Cavotec for our agreement with the Port Hedland Port Authority in Australia to supply 14 MoorMaster™ units – the largest ever order for our vacuum-based automated mooring technology.

Ross Robertson MP filed a Notice of Motion that appeared in the daily Parliamentary Order Paper – a way of bringing our achievements to the attention of the House.

This is indeed encouraging, and we look forward to continuing to develop and improve MoorMaster™ for applications in ports and lock systems around the world.

Is a greener shipping industry obtainable?

Cavotec’s Alternative Maritime Power™ (AMP™) – that allows ships to turn off their engines when in port and plug into shore-side electricity – is an example of an innovative technology that substantially reduces carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions in port areas and surrounding communities. The benefits of AMP™ are easily measurable: every vessel using AMP™ saves around one tonne of pollutants per day.

But what about out at sea? We have discovered another great example of a technological innovation that could help the shipping industry reduce its environmental impact. Singapore-based firm, Ecospec has developed and patented a system that removes carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide, and soot from vessel exhausts. The magic ingredient? Seawater. It’s a breakthrough that is attracting growing attention.
